Abuse in relationships may be of any form like emotional, physical, financial or even sexual. It is really heartbreaking and emotionally numbing to suffer abuse from person who you consider your everything. Staying in such a relationship will do your more harm than you think. Dare to walk out but before get a solid plan with these hints:
Disengage: Do not take the step of walking out straightaway if possible. Do not drop hints regarding your decision of leaving him. You need to regain some of your power before walking out. So, just try to disengage when you sense an argument.
Save money secretly: You will need resources and money when you head out so start saving money beforehand. Set up a secret account or find a place inside the home to hide money.
Get help: Go to your trusted friends and family members and seek their help. Often women feel embarrassing in admitting that they are in an abusive relationship. But, chances are that your family and close friends expected this thing to happen and they are prepared to help you.
Get documentation: You should have a good proof of the abuse in case you are headed for a divorce or have children. Save abusive emails or messages or if possible take pictures of physical abuse. Also, have copies of all your important documents like birth certificate, tax records, insurance etc. Ready.
Be ready with a bag and place to go: Always keep a bag ready so that you can leave at once if things get really ugly and the situation gets life threatening. Also, you should have a place where you can go stay for a while. It can be your parents’ place or your friend’s place or even a new apartment if you can afford one.
